Eagle ScoutThis is my first post about the Eagle Project, so I will write a basic overview of what it is. My eagle project consists of building a playscape in the first grade playground at Quaker Farms Elementary School in Oxford, CT. It will consist of two free-standing deck-like platforms. One platform will be four feet from the ground and will have the dimensions 8′ by 8′. The other is five feet high and 4′ by 4′. They will be connected by a small step.

To access this structure there will be a tire climber and a ladder, which both will be fixed to the shorter platform. To exit the structure there will be a basic climbing wall descending from the higher platform. Surrounding both platforms, excluding transition, exit, and entrance areas, will be a railing to prohibit falls from the platforms. Attached to one of the railing posts will be a playground steering wheel for a little touch of imagination.

Surrounding the whole structure will be use zone with a width of 22′ and a length of 29′. This area will be filled with gravel and woodchips that amount to a depth of 9″. The structure will be made of pressure treated wood. The rest of the playscape (decking, railing, and anything else that hands will be all over) will be made of either synthetic wood or a vinyl (railing).

So, that’s my eagle project in a nutshell. The dates for my project are as follows:

  • Friday, September 7, 2007 - 4pm until dark
  • Saturday, September 8, 2007 - 9am-6pm
  • Sunday, September 9, 2007 - 9am-6pm

Hopefully, my eagle project should be done by then. If you would like to help let me know.
