Frank Gross
|
Frank Gross was born in Hessen Darnstadt about the year 1827. He emigrated to the United States sometime in 1853, separately from Anna Schmitt who he married before coming. Since Anna arrived in November of that year, it is reasonable to assume that he arrived first. Records of his arrival have not been found, but the year of his arrival is included on the 1900 census, where he can be found living with his daughter, Emelia. Anna is no longer listed, so she had presumably died already, sometime between 1880 and 1900 (most of the 1890 census was lost in a fire, so it cannot be checked). The 1860 Census describes him as a Tailor, but by 1870 he is listed as running a "Saloon". Tracing through Census data, we learn that he and Anna had 6 children; Emelia, George, Francis, Annie, Frank, and Louis. Father Michael Reder was descended from his daughter Emelia. Francis appears to have died early, and another child, Frank, was apparently named for him later. Frank Gross apparently died between 1900 and 1910. |
