Michael Leary (sometimes seen as O'Leary)

Micheal Leary was born about 1790 in Wales, and married Honora Collins there some time before 1839, when their oldest known child, Julia, was born. After Julia, they had another six known children; Johanna (abt. 1840), Catherine (abt. 1842), Honora (abt. 1846), Ellen, Mary, and Timothy (abt. 1840 or 1841). We have no information on the last 3, except that Timothy is found living with his father in the home of Johanna Leary (now Sullivan) in the 1880 census.

Micheal was widowed some time before he came to the United States, which was certainly before 1870, when he first appears in a census, and probably emigrated from Wales between 1867 and 1869.

The only information on his occupation is that in the 1861 Wales Census he is listed as a Laborer. By 1870, he is living with his daughter, Catherine and her husband, John, in the Pittsburgh, PA, area. By his last appearance in the census data, in 1880, he is living with another daughter, Johanna, her husband, John Sullivan, also in the Pittsburgh area. The 1890 census data was mostly lost in a fire, though he would have been 100 by that time, so the approximate time of his death is not known.
