Wilhelm Kappert

Wilhelm Kappert was born in Germany and married twice. The first marriage was to an unknown woman with whom he had at least one or two children, William and Charlie. There is some question about whether Charlie is an erronious reference to William or a true separate child. After the death of his first wife, he married Maria Feissel and they lived for a time in Essen, Germany, having 5 known children together there: Christina (b. 1868), Gertrude (Gerty) (1874), Anna (1878), Franz Carl (1879), and John (1880).

The family emigrated to the United States in about 1881, where he went by the name William. His son(s) from his first marriage are not known to have accompanied them while the children of his marriage to Maria are all remembered as having emigrated. Wilhelm purchased from St Paul's Monastery either property with a house or property where he built a house on St Paul Street in Pittsburgh. According to Terrence Hurley, the house, originally built without plumbing, was still there in 1995.

Little more is known about him currently, except that he died sometime before his wife, Maria.
