Janet Patricia Schmitt

Janet Hurley was born in Pittsburgh, PA, to John Patrick Hurley, Jr. and Margaret Myrtle Kappert and was baptized at St. Georges Church.

She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and Martins Ferry, OH, and attended St. Francis Academy in Pittsburgh, before attending Antioch College. While at Antioch, studying accounting, she went to New York City for an internship at NBC. There she met William J. Schmitt, who was an accountant in the management training program at NBC.

Janet and William were married and settled first in Queens, NY, before moving to Long Island for a number of years where they raised their four children: William F, John P, Margaret M, and Amy J. Once the children moved on to college and beyond, they moved to Connecticut, where they currently live in retirement, maintaining a close relationship with their children and 11 grandchildren.
