William Jude Schmitt is the son of William August Schmitt and Marguerite Agatha Brierton, the grandson of William Schmitt and Margaret Diehl, the grandson of Harry Joseph Brierton, Sr. and Margaret Jane McAnn, the great grandson of Stephen Schmitt and Amelia, the great grandson of James Paul McAnn and Margaret Kiellian, and the great grandson of James Brierton and Anna Corr.

He was born in Woodhaven, New York, and educated in the New York City public schools, including Franklin K. Lane High School. He was skipped a cumulative 2 years of school, entering Queens College at the age of 16 and working his way through college by working at Dexter Park, a minor league ballpark in Queens, NY. He graduated from Queens College near the top of his class with a degree in Accounting.

He joined the Army Reserve and was stationed for a time at Fort Knox, Kentucky, rising to the level of Captain before resigning.

He joined NBC, working in the accounting pool and attended NYU at night, ultimately receiving a Masters degree in Economics. At NBC, he met Janet Patricia Hurley, who was then working in the secretarial pool. They were married, living briefly in Astoria, New York, followed by a number of years in Hempstead, New York, and many years in West Hempstead, New York, before moving to Connecticut. They raised 4 children, William Francis, John Patrick, Margaret Marion, and Amy Janet.

He continued working at NBC for over 20 years, rising to the position of Vice President in the Enterprises division. During that time, he was directly involved with NBC business such as syndication, outside investments such as Broadway plays, and directly involved in the touring production,"Disney On Parade", a circus-style arena show that was a joint production of NBC and Walt Disney. NBC was also involved in the early television rights to the American Football League, and he has maintained season tickets with the New York Jets football team, first attending with his father, William August Schmitt, and his sons, William Francis and John Patrick, and continuing today with his sons and grandchildren.

After leaving NBC, he bacame President of Ticketron where he stayed until his retirement, turning the company from a losing operation into a profitable enterprise.

After retiring, he has been active in his local Mens Club, rising to the position of President. Since retiring, he and Janet have developed a regular routine of bringing their grandchildren to various special locations as the reach particular ages, ranging from Gettysburgh to Niagara Falls.
